Halo advice

I am putting links to people and sites that have useful advice on Halo living here.

Alek wore a halo brace for about 8 weeks early this yr. She knows her stuff --raw and honest writing from the heart IMHO.

Advice service
The H2G2 advice service from the BBC from 2000, so its old. Written by a male author. He does go on a bit about the negatives, but lots of useful stuff! Covers all the biggies: staring, sleeping, pain, sex...

What's a halo?
"A plastic body jacket designed to be uncomfortable at any angle lined with a scratchy sheepskin connected by 4 metal uprights cunningly placed so any clothes you attempt to wear fall right off you, bolted to a halo ring around your skull, just above your eyebrows. The ring is bolted to you (here's the grabber) by at least 4 pins screwed about 1/8'' into your skull. Note: they are not bolts, just pins. They sit on the surface of your skull, they don't go thru it. A torque wrench makes sure they don't go too far in. Older rings like mine go right round with a raised bit at the back so I can theoretically lie on a pillow. New types are open at the back.
Does it hurt?
Yes, no and maybe...

Extra on H2G2, replying to above from 2007 - She has my exact same fractures C1 and C2! Good helpful stuff about the vest and washing and hair, especially for women.

"my TOP tip would be to try a big squishy beanbag (the soft kind you can mould yourself into). I used this on the bed to lean against instead of pillows -- the halo moulds into the bag while supporting your back. Guess soft pillows would work too, but they're less pliable. After approx 6-8 weeks, I slept on my side without pillows. (Prior to that, I wasn't able to lower myself down or get up again this way, but it got much easier...
